About Our Chapter
As the longest standing chapter on NAU’s campus, Sigma Nu has stayed true to its values since 1962. The fraternity is based around 3 principals: Love, Truth, and Honor. Each brother learns how to live by those principals and uses them as a mantra to help guide them though the rest of their lives.
As a fraternity, we also pride ourselves on our leadership skills and our ability to help shape young men into leaders. Sigma Nu has a leadership program unique to the fraternity, known as LEAD. A mandatory program to participate in as active brothers, The LEAD program helps brothers get prepared for life after college, by diving deep into topics such as finances, careers, families, mental health, friendships, and more. It is no secret that brothers of Sigma Nu hold this unique program near to our hearts, as it’s effectiveness changes our lives everyday.
When we are stepping into our future after college and become alumni, we benefit from Sigma Nu’s mentor network, a platform for new alumni to reach out to the older alumni for advice, interviews, and countless job opportunities.
Brotherhood
One of the most important aspects of a fraternity is the brotherhood, and we are proud of ours. Consisting of just under 60 brothers, our chapter believes these tight bonds are of utmost importance, not only in college, but in life. We are constantly pushing for ways to strengthen our brotherhood, through activities such as hikes, camping trips, lock-ins, bad movie nights, road trips, and a fraternity favorite, our annual trip to Lake Powell.
Throughout our time in the fraternity, we have noticed that our several excursions, activities, trips, and leadership sessions, simply complement the fact that just being around each other for the time that we are is enough to grow close. In the end, our fostering of countless lifelong friendships comes naturally to the brothers of Sigma Nu.
Philanthropy
When it comes to giving back to the community and the world with things like fundraising through events, competitions, or simple street clean-ups, Sigma Nu has done it all. Every fall we hold Sigma Boo, a multi-day philanthropy competition for sororities on NAU campus. Some organizations we have raised money for are:
- St. Baldrick’s (finding cures for childhood cancer)
- Wounded Warrior Project (assists and raises money for wounded veterans)
- Big Brothers and Big Sisters (a volunteer based mentor network)
Throughout previous years, we have raised over $30,000 for these amazing causes. Fall events put on by our brothers and participated in by sororities consist of pumpkin paintings, costume contests, talent shows, sports tournaments, and more. Smaller events such as car washes and bake sales are held throughout the spring as well, for varying causes.
Socials
Our brotherhood is no stranger to social events, whether they are partnered with sororities, or invite-only events where brothers can bring dates, like our White Rose Formal in Lake Havasu each spring. Socials include tailgates, Super Bowl parties, recreational and intramural sports, movie nights, car washes, barbecues, hikes, and more.
As committed as each brother is to Sigma Nu, we don’t like to limit ourselves to the fraternity. Every single brother of Sigma Nu is an active member in a separate NAU club, with several brothers holding leadership roles in their respective organizations. If we’re not participating in either of these activities, you can likely find us engaging with our respective schools of NAU, holding a strong campus presence, connecting with others, or studying, as we have one of the highest GPAs out of all fraternities on campus.
